Extreme Historical Renovation
Mike had the honor to completely renovate the home that his 4th great grandparents John and Melinda Williams built in 1826. Mike is the 5th great grandson of Knoxville’s founder James White. James White’s daughter, Melinda White Williams oversaw the building of this home while her husband Col. John Williams was away as Ambassador to Guatemala. This home is located directly in front of the Wee Golf Course at Williams Creek on Dandridge Avenue.
When Mike’s uncle, Alex Brandau, had the opportunity to purchase their piece of history at auction, the once stately home that was visited by many famous people was a dilapidated shell that frequently housed vagrants . The home was on Knoxville Heritage “Fragile 15” list. Now, the home proudly stands and has been returned to its former grandeur, as well as being on Knoxville Heritage’s “Fabulous 15”. The term “Tennessee Volunteer” said to have been inspired by John Williams, as he was one of Tennessee’s first volunteers. What a wonderful gift to leave all Tennesseans and our family.
